ENDODONTICS
Endodontics is the specialization of complex structures found inside the teeth such as tooth pulp, tissues, nerves, and arterioles. Endodontic treatment (or root canal therapy) allows the dentist to save the natural tooth when tooth disease occurs. Tooth damage signs and symptoms may include gum inflammation, tenderness, tooth sensitivity, tooth discoloration, and chronic tooth pain. Causes of inner tooth damage may be bacteria infections, fractures or chips, and injuries.
Endodontic Treatment Process
Root canal therapy may take up to three visits to complete. The dentist will begin the treatment by administering a local anesthetic and placing a dental dam to protect the area from saliva. The dentist will create an opening on the surface of the tooth to remove the pulp. The area will be shaped, cleaned, and filled to restore the tooth. The root canals will then be sealed with cement. A temporary filling may be placed on the tooth prior to the permanent restoration procedure. The dentist will place the permanent restoration or crown in the final visit.
